It is no secret that I’m writing a YA Viking Book (which you can pick up for free here). So I wanted to make a list of some of the other authors I have found along the way which do a similar thing with adventure stories with a Norse/Viking feel.
What I have found is most people don’t do a straight out Viking adventure (unless it’s historical fiction) but have kind of done what I do… which is to create an awesome fantasy world and populate an area or a race or whatever with Viking style people. People probably think this is a cheap or easy way out but I can tell you it still takes heaps of research to make it feel real and to keep it accurate.
So these are some books that I think you will be interested in…
“This is nail biting, heart pumping, beautiful and terrifying. It’s a brilliant fantasy read and I love it.” ★★★★★
A stolen crown. A handsome prince. A giant disaster.
Since childhood, Elena has lived inside the walls of the Pit, the filthy shantytown where the poor are forced to live out their lives as trash. But when she steals the Anglian crown, everything changes…
Thrust into the bloodiest race in all the realms, Elena is forced to compete with a man she hates while she develops a growing passion for another. Along the way she must battle deadly creatures and demons, all the while struggling to understand her special skills and her mysterious healing powers that she must keep secret. But when Elena discovers the truth behind the race, can she stop the ancient, wicked evil that threatens all living things before it’s too late?
An epic fantasy filled with adventure, intrigue, and romance, the rich world of Steel Maiden is perfect for fans of Throne of Glass, Graceling and The Girl of Fire and Thorns.
“A dark fantasy that really got me invested!” ★★★★★

After vampires and werewolves, after wizards and fallen angels, a new breed of Angels is here to usher you into their dark world. An ancient, deadly, inescapable race.
No one can see them. They’re shadows of destiny. They’re knights of death. They’re the Subterraneans and they’re here to claim our lives.
Commanded by a mysterious congregation called the Màsala, the Angels of Death ensure that each man’s destiny takes its due course on Earth.
But what happens when love intervenes?

Her time is up: Gemma must die . . . and Evan has been sent to kill her.
But what if she’s the only one who can truly see him?
Against every rule. Against fate itself. Against everything and everyone. A story of forbidden love and star-crossed destinies.
Nothing ever happens in Norway. But at least Ellie knows what to expect when she visits her grandmother: a tranquil fishing village and long, slow summer days. And maybe she’ll finally get out from under the shadow of her way-too-perfect big brother, Graham, while she’s there.
What Ellie doesn’t anticipate is Graham’s infuriating best friend, Tuck, tagging along for the trip. Nor did she imagine boys going missing amid rumors of impossible kidnappings. Least of all does she expect that something powerful and ancient will awaken in her and that strange whispers will urge Ellie to claim her place among mythological warriors. Instead of peace and quiet, suddenly there’s a lot for a girl from L.A. to handle on a summer sojourn in Norway! And when Graham vanishes, it’s up to Ellie—and the ever-sarcastic, if undeniably alluring, Tuck—to uncover the truth about all the disappearances and thwart the nefarious plan behind them.
Deadly legends, hidden identities, and tentative romance swirl together in one girl’s unexpectedly epic coming-of-age.
“The story is amazing! If you are a fan of Runes or this is the first book you’ve read about immortals, god’s, and reapers, I guarantee, it won’t be your last!” ★★★★★

Lana Longhorn has a “special gift” that causes people to reveal their deepest, darkest secrets. She thinks it’s the reason for the tragic accident that killed her parents when she was a child and has become an expert at hiding her gift from the world by age eighteen. That is, until a soul reaper from Hel walks into her life.
From the moment they meet, Syn Shabaka pushes Lana’s buttons. He is the first person she’s ever met who is immune to her gift, and the first person to offer her a way to be with other gifted people like her. The offer tempts her, but fear that he will discover the truth about her adopted family keeps her from accepting.
Lana has already lost one set of parents, and she refuses to lose another. As sparks fly between the pair, Lana must decide what is important, keeping her family safe or finding her happiness.
“Excellent historical fiction.” ★★★★★
A young man only at peace when he is at war
Young Halfdan is a slave. He is crafty with a bow and arrow and wise in the ways of the animals, but he can only dream of a warrior’s life. That is, until the dark day a Saxon’s blows lay his father on his deathbed, and his mother makes a tragic bargain for Halfdan’s freedom.
A boy’s destiny can come at the most terrible price. Halfdan must suffer a grave loss in order to grasp what he most desires: to train by, to live by, and, if the fates decree it, to die by the force of his sword and the swiftness of his arrow. He is to be a warrior — a great warrior.
Bloody, furiously paced, heart-wrenching, and unflinching, this is a story of a land where the destinies of boys and men are forged in the heat of battle. Young Halfdan shall come to know the glories of true brotherhood and the unspeakable horrors of true evil. In this first book in a saga teeming with thrilling details of the Viking world, young Halfdan emerges as a new hero . . . a new myth . . . a new legend.

“You’d lose that bet, Darlena. I’d be careful what you say; you don’t know anything.”
Lena’s guilt is threatening to consume her, and after months of inaction, she decides it’s time to find another Red Witch to join with her against Hecate and the crazy Red Gods. Acting on instinct, she travels to Scotland, but the other Red Witch is nothing like Lena was expecting.
